How to Turnaround Your Job Quicker

Send in PDF files...

The number one way to get your job out faster is to send PDF files rather than the original application document. All the major desktop publishing programs make it easy to save out PDF with the proper settings. See our Questions & Answers page on how to do that. For other documents like Microsoft Word , take the time to download such PDF print engine such as primopdf, available for free.

Check the number of colour (separations) in your job

One of the big differences between offset and sending your file to a colour photocopier is that colour-tagging matters. Offset allows you to match to any spot colour. But often times the documents will come in with the elements tagged to the wrong colour. Any good printer will catch colour separations issues in the proofing stage. But it still slows things down.

Make sure the pages bleed

When a picture or colour graphic is flush up to the top, bottom, or side of a page, you want it to extend out at least a half-centimetre over the border. That way, bindery can cut the pages down to size without leaving a nasty thin white line at the edge of the page.

Cut out spreads

Don't build your pages in spreads. Oftentimes the printer has to break them apart to impose the pages properly on the signature (press sheet).

Proof before your client signs off

If you know that you won't get sign-off until the very last minute on such things as sponsor logos and text changes, consider sending the files in "as is" and pulling a cheap round of proofs.
